In a dedicated effort for Dementia Action Week, Darul Ummah Goresbrook in Barking & Dagenham organized a Dementia Friends Information Session for worshippers. The session aimed to shed light on how dementia affects communities and how people can support each other to help those affected lead normal lives.
The Alzheimer’s Society Information Session took place on Friday, the holiest day of the week for Muslims, when special Jumuah prayers are performed in congregation in mosques worldwide.
Zoinul Abidin BEM, Head of Universal Services at Barking & Dagenham, and Service Manager Rahat Ismail facilitated these crucial sessions for hundreds of staff in Barking & Dagenham.
Speaking after the session delivered by Dementia Friends Ambassador Emdad Rahman, Abidin emphasized, “Dementia can turn people’s lives upside down, but it doesn’t have to be that way. A caring community will look out for family, friends, and neighbors, and we are doing our bit to spread the word. We express our solidarity with those affected – No one needs to suffer alone.”
The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends program is the most significant initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts, and talks about the condition.
Whether attending a face-to-face Information Session or watching the online video, Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and discovering small ways to help. From sharing information about the Dementia Friends program to visiting someone living with dementia, every action counts.
