In Bangladesh, the celebration of Christmas 2023 is underway with traditional zeal and fervor, showcasing the country’s cultural diversity and communal harmony. The Christian community joins the global commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, highlighting the essence of rebirth, new beginnings, forgiveness, and peace.

Joyous Celebrations and Decorations:
The festive atmosphere is adorned with vibrant decorations – Christmas trees illuminated with colorful lights and the jubilant sounds of Christmas carols and hymns echoing, especially during special prayer sessions at churches. These celebrations not only signify faith but also serve as a unifying force, strengthening community bonds.

Greetings from Leadership:
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have extended warm greetings for the occasion. President Shahabuddin is hosting a grand reception at Bangabhaban, welcoming the Archbishop of Bangladesh, foreign dignitaries, prominent members of the Christian community, and other religious and professional leaders. A highlight of the reception is a performance by a group of singers, concluding with President Shahabuddin participating in cutting a Christmas cake.

Media’s Role in Commemoration:
Bangladesh’s media, including Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, private channels, and radio stations, are airing special programs underscoring the significance of the day. National newspapers are contributing to the celebration by publishing special articles in honor of the occasion.

Messages of Unity and Communal Harmony:
President Shahabuddin, in his message, emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to communal harmony, reflecting on the nation’s legacy of religious freedom. He recalled the vision of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, for a non-communal Bangladesh and urged all to work towards building a prosperous and ‘Smart Bangladesh’ envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, echoing these sentiments, reflected on Christ’s mission to establish justice and peace, citing his sacrifices for the needy as a timeless inspiration. She called upon everyone to contribute to building a ‘Smart Bangladesh,’ fulfilling Bangabandhu’s dream of a hunger-free, non-communal ‘Sonar Bangladesh.’

Beyond Festivities: A Reflection of Unity and Progress:
This year’s Christmas celebration in Bangladesh transcends mere festivities. It mirrors the nation’s spirit of unity, peace, and progress as it continues its journey towards a brighter and inclusive future. The cultural diversity on display during Christmas serves as a testament to Bangladesh’s commitment to fostering harmony among its people.
