Emdad Rahman presents a review of “Exploring Beanibazar,” a documentary crafted by Foysol Mahmud. The debut screening of “Explore Beanibazar” witnessed a remarkable success as a packed audience gathered at the Brady Arts Centre near Brick Lane, immersing themselves in this groundbreaking heritage documentary.

Foysol Mahmud, a journalist, and filmmaker, has meticulously created a one-hour motion picture that not only showcases the history, beauty, and significance of Beanibazar in Bangladesh but also stands as a testament to his passion for the region. The documentary not only promotes Beanibazar positively but also serves as an invaluable resource for both present and future generations, connecting natives and the global expatriate community.

Inspiring Creative Content:
The documentary’s compelling content has kindled a renewed interest in Beanibazar’s heritage and history. Particularly, young people in the diaspora, with roots in Bangladesh, are expected to delve deeper into their customs, cultures, traditions, and ancestry after viewing this film. “Explore Beanibazar” acts as a catalyst for fostering a sense of belonging and unity, emphasizing the importance of understanding our past to confidently navigate the future.

Heritage’s Intrinsic Value:
Heritage, being invaluable and significant, allows us to relish a golden past, derive joy from the present, and pass on this legacy to future generations. “Explore Beanibazar” contributes to promoting values, bringing depth to discussions, elucidating dreams, and vividly portraying the evolution of the community over time.

Shaping Views Through Heritage:
The documentary sheds light on the past, prompting viewers to question bygone days, reflect on the present, and contemplate the future. Foysol Mahmud’s exceptional efforts are expected to inspire communities to take a more active interest in conserving their rich heritage.

Beyond the Launch:
Despite the overwhelming success of the film’s launch, there is a call for further development. Recommendations include adding subtitles, organizing a roadshow with Q&A sessions across the UK and abroad, launching an education program in schools, and inspiring other Upazilas and regions to embark on similar diaspora-focused projects.

The special guests at the launch, including the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem, Camden Mayor Nasim Ali, and Speaker of Tower Hamlets Council Shafi Ahmed, added to the grandeur of the event.

Foysol Mahmud, the visionary behind “Explore Beanibazar,” envisions more to come. He expressed, “Heritage is beautiful and important for us all. I hope my humble efforts will spark discussions and encourage interest from not only my community but others too.”

Beanibazar is a sub-district (Upazila) of the Sylhet District in Bangladesh, with a significant expatriate population, notably in the United Kingdom and the United States.
