Mohammad Jubair, Chief Reporter of Channel S, received special recognition at the British Curry Awards for his media coverage of the curry industry and community during the pandemic. The awards, held online for the first time, acknowledged Jubair’s selfless humanitarian work and investigative reporting. His impactful stories covered issues affecting the BAME and Muslim community, including chef shortages, the “vindaloo visa,” and pandemic-related government policies. Despite his busy schedule, Jubair actively engages in media-based community work, particularly through the London Bangla Press Club, where he serves as the General Secretary.
The 16th annual British Curry Awards, hosted by Rory Bremner, celebrated industry heroes during the pandemic and recognized early curry pioneers. High-profile celebrities and politicians, including Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, presented awards. The ceremony acknowledged the curry industry’s contributions, including providing meals to essential workers on the NHS frontline. British Curry Awards founder Enam Ali MBE expressed delight in honoring exceptional winners during challenging times.
In his acceptance, Jubair expressed surprise and humility, stating, “As a journalist, I never thought I would be a winner of the curry Oscar. Interestingly, it is not for curry but for my contribution within media for the industry and community.” Jubair also received recognition from Canary Wharf Group Plc for his leadership of the Press Club and contributions to society, along with Sunrise Today Media Awards and Eastwood Awards for ‘Best TV News Reporter.’ He is listed in the British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration and recognized in the British Bangladeshi Who’s Who.
